I had received an inquirery about where to find secluded forest locations for a long day hike or weekend backpacking trip in central Connecticut. The best advice that I have for that area are the following locations:

Mattabesett Trail: nearly the entire route East of RT 17.

Metacomet Trail: south of Farmington.

Cockaponset/Pataconk Trail: The entire length that runs through Cockaponset State Forest.

Chatfield Trail: The entire length plus the Deep Woods Trail, Covered Bridge Trail to Red Trail to White Trail to Blue Trail to Green Trail.

If you know of any other locations in CT that can provide a good twenty miles of secluded hiking, please post a message below so that we may find the peace and quiet we need.
