Mattabesett Hiking Trail, Lamentation Mountain Section
The views of the western forests and the skyline of Hartford along the northern horizon are more than worth the effort. Unfortunately, contrary to the previous maps and guide books, the Mattabesett Trail comes to a disappointing end at the northern crest of Lamentation Mountain. This is after about a half mile of an extremely difficult to navigate section of faded trail. The problem is a lock-out by a new land owner that prevents hiking along that trail. This breaks what could be a continuous route from the Connecticut River near Middletown north through Connecticut and Massachusetts.
